In a significant stride towards expanding the horizons of veterinary medicine, Dr. Mushtaq Memon, Executive Director of WATCVM, embarked on a transformative journey to Colombia, South America. From August 27th to September 5th, 2023, he visited three
prestigious universities in Colombia to introduce Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and Integrative Veterinary Medicine (IVM): National University of Colombia, Universidad de Antioquia, and Universidad CES.

Dr. Memon shared presentations on IVM, TCVM, and the art of veterinary acupuncture, igniting a spark of curiosity among students and faculty alike.

One of the highlights of Dr. Memon’s visits were the hands-on demonstration labs, where attendees got to experience the effects of acupuncture firsthand. Not only were the attendees brave enough to try self-acupuncture, but dogs also experienced the therapeutic
touch of TCVM. These sessions left a lasting impression and inspired many to explore the world of TCVM further.

Dr. Memon also shared about scholarship opportunities for pursuing MS-TCVM studies at Chi University, providing a path for those eager to dive deeper into TCVM. Additionally, he offered free WATCVM memberships to veterinary students who joined the newly
    formed IVM club.

For the faculty members, Dr. Memon highlighted that Colombia’s per capita income falls below $8000, making them eligible for the Rosenberg Scholarship. This scholarship offers a chance for faculty members to enhance their skills and knowledge in acupuncture,
    further enriching their practice.

Dr. Memon’s visit was met with great enthusiasm and interest from veterinary students, faculty, and administrators. Colombia is now on the path to nurturing TCVM and IVM within its veterinary education, practice, and research.

Currently, Colombia does not have a representative on the WATCVM Board of Directors, but the seeds of TCVM have been firmly planted, and it’s only a matter of time before they bear the fruit of continuing progress for the veterinary community and benefiting
    animal health across Colombia.
